I have had so many really close calls with rain this year. Family shoots canceled, weddings sprinkled on, and engagement shoots with grey, ominous clouds. This engagement shoot, it was not a close call with rain. It very, very much rained.
I will admit that it’s a little scary holding expensive lenses and my dear camera out to just get wet. It’s unnerving even thinking back on it. But, I had some plastic over my camera, and my shoot sac (with the cover on) almost completely covered by a long jacket. I really should have taken a picture of myself, I am certain I looked absolutely ridiculous. I rocked an umbrella when I could, and tossed it aside when I just couldn’t juggle everything effectively. I definitely changed lenses less, shot a little erratically, and bracketed more often than usual. But shooting in the rain is brilliant.
Maybe it was my company. Cameron and Jennifer made it ridiculously easy on me. They weren’t scared of the rain. Jenna wasn’t worried that her hair would get messed up. They were both happy to be out in the rain and to be out with each other, laughing at the absurdity, and embracing the adventure.
I’m so glad they were able to really remind me of what I do. I adventure with you. I paint the picture of your story. I capture the joyous, the ridiculous, the awesome.
Because that’s why we do what we do. Not photographers, but people. We don’t live to not mess up our hair, we live to run, laugh, and experience all that we are with the ones we love. Thank you Jenna and Cameron for reminding me, and for being amazing.
